Surface Design

Here’s the scoop:

The Handweavers’ Guild of America (HGA) presents a national conference during years alternating with the SDA conference. In 2010 Convergence is slated for beautiful Albuquerque, New Mexico (July 18 - 25, 2010) and features vendors, workshops, and seminars. Originally targeted to weavers, Convergence has expanded to encompass the burgeoning interest in surface design processes. You can check out the details at www.weavespindye.org.

The International Quilt Festival attracts more than 30,000 visitors to the George Brown Convention Center in Houston Texas every year. Slated for November 4 - 7, 2010, the Festival is the biggest of its type anywhere in the world. Hundreds of vendors, workshops and exhibitions jam the three floors of the convention center. See a preview and read more about it at www.quilts.com.

We are envisioning a new format for the SDA membership booth. In addition to offering issues of the SDA Journal and flyers on membership in SDA, we’d love to display your artwork, and also offer you an opportunity to participate in the booth itself.

So join us!

Here’s how it works
  • You must be a member of SDA to participate
  • You must be present to participate during your slotted three hour demonstration time
  • Reserve your space by paying the $100 participant fee
  • Plan a demonstration of a technique you teach, or something you’d just like to share with visitors. Details to guide the development of your demonstration will be sent with the confirmation of your participation.
  • Select 2 – 4 pieces of artwork you would like to display in the booth.
  • Come and share your work and demonstration and then enjoy the rest of the conference/festival offerings at your own pace.

NOTE: There are limited spaces available in each booth, as everyone who participates will be assured of a three hour time slot.

Email Saaraliisa Ylitalo membership@SurfaceDesign.org with questions.

Reserve your space on the roster by emailing Executive Director Stacey Stern at executivedirector@surfacedesign.org.

Refer to the Members’ Booth Guidelines Click Here .

These are the benefits of joining SDA at either or both events:

  • Be mentored free of charge as you develop your demonstration for visitors
  • Share your skills with viewers who may later be interested in hiring workshop leaders
  • Network with other SDA members and enthusiasts
  • Support SDA and help attract new members to our organization
